Pelvic Floor Disorders

Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence is a condition characterized by the involuntary leakage of urine. It can range in severity from occasional leakage when coughing or sneezing to a complete inability to control bladder function.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse refers to a condition where one or more pelvic organs, such as the bladder, uterus, or rectum, descend or bulge into the vaginal canal due to weakened or stretched pelvic floor muscles and ligaments. This can result in discomfort, pressure, or a feeling of fullness in the pelvic region, as well as urinary, bowel, or sexual dysfunction. Pelvic organ prolapse may occur as a result of childbirth, aging, obesity, chronic coughing, or genetic factors.

Pelvic Pain

Pelvic pain refers to discomfort or pain that is experienced in the lower abdominal area, below the belly button and between the hips. It can vary in intensity and duration and may be sharp, dull, or cramp-like. Pelvic pain can be caused by various factors, including gynecological conditions such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), ovarian cysts, or menstrual disorders. It can also result from urinary tract infections, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), musculoskeletal issues, or nerve-related conditions.

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

Pelvic floor dysfunction refers to a range of problems that occur when the muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues of the pelvic floor do not function properly. This dysfunction can lead to symptoms such as urinary or fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, and sexual dysfunction. Causes of pelvic floor dysfunction include childbirth, obesity, chronic constipation, repetitive heavy lifting, and certain medical conditions. Effective management of pelvic floor dysfunction typically involves a multidisciplinary approach tailored to the individual needs of each patient.

Sexual Dysfunction

Sexual dysfunction refers to a broad range of problems that interfere with a person's ability to experience sexual satisfaction. This can manifest in various ways, such as a lack of desire for sexual activity (low libido), difficulty achieving arousal or maintaining arousal during sexual activity, pain during intercourse (dyspareunia), difficulty achieving orgasm (anorgasmia) or persistent genital arousal. Effective management often involves a holistic approach that considers both physical and psychological aspects of sexual health.

Fecal Incontinence

Fecal incontinence, also known as bowel incontinence, refers to the inability to control bowel movements, leading to involuntary leakage of stool. This condition can range from occasional minor leakage to complete loss of control over bowel movements. It can significantly impact a person's quality of life, leading to embarrassment, social isolation, and a decreased sense of self-esteem. Treatment options for fecal incontinence may include dietary modifications, medications, bowel training exercises, biofeedback therapy, or surgical interventions, depending on the underlying cause and severity of symptoms.

Interstitial Cystitis

Interstitial cystitis, often referred to as painful bladder syndrome, is a chronic condition characterized by bladder pain, urinary urgency, and frequency. While the exact cause is unknown, it is believed to involve inflammation of the bladder lining. Treatment typically focuses on symptom management, including medication, bladder training, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications.

Second Opinion Consultations

A second opinion medical consultation provides patients with the opportunity to seek additional insights and expertise from another qualified healthcare provider regarding their diagnosis, treatment plan, or medical condition. This service can be invaluable for patients facing complex or challenging medical decisions, offering reassurance, clarity, and peace of mind. Ultimately, the goal of a second opinion consultation is to empower patients to make informed decisions about their healthcare by providing them with a comprehensive understanding of their condition and all available treatment options.
